Spring Cleaning Bliss

Spring has sprung, and it’s the perfect time for a spring clean! As the days get longer, and the temperature rises, there’s no better feeling than freshening up your home and welcoming the new season with open arms.

1. Create a Cleaning Checklist

Before you dive headfirst into spring cleaning, take a moment to create a list of areas that need to be looked at – a checklist of sorts. Start by making a list of all the rooms and areas in your home that need attention. This will help you stay organised and ensure that no corner is left untouched. Tackle the daunting tasks first, then the smaller ones.

2.  Declutter Room by Room

One of the most important aspects of spring cleaning is decluttering. Go room by room, and ruthlessly assess your belongings. Donate, recycle, or toss items that you no longer need or use. Clearing out clutter not only makes your home look better but also creates a more serene environment.

3. Dust and Vacuum Thoroughly

Dust and vacuum all surfaces, including ceilings, walls, and floors. Pay special attention to corners, scotia, and skirting boards. Even light switches and power points.

4. Deep Clean Carpets and Upholstery

Carpets and upholstery can trap dirt, dust, and allergens over time. Invest in a professional carpet cleaning service or rent a carpet cleaner to refresh your carpets. For upholstery, use a fabric-specific cleaner or hire a professional upholstery cleaning service to ensure your furniture looks and feels brand new.

5. Wash Windows and Curtains

Remove and clean window screens, wash windows inside and out, and wipe down window sills. Don’t forget to wash or vacuum your curtains and blinds to remove any dust and odours that may have built up.

6. Refresh the Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home. This means it will accumulate grease and grime. Clean and wipe down all kitchen surfaces, including benches, appliances, cupboards and drawer fronts. Don’t forget to empty and clean out the fridge and freezer, disposing of any expired items. You could even organise your pantry for added efficiency and, not to mention the aesthetic vibes.

7. Revitalise Bathrooms

Bathrooms can be hotspots for mould and mildew, thanks to our wet and cold winters. Scrub tiles, grout, and bathroom fixtures thoroughly. Replace shower curtains and liners if they’re showing signs of mould or wear. There are multiple options for cleaning your bathroom – whether you make a vinegar and dish soap solution or purchase some options from Bunnings or Mitre 10. There are some really affordable options out there.

8. Don’t Forget Outdoor Areas

Thanks to winter being wet, rainy and cold, your outdoor areas may be a little worse for wear with the joys of mould growth and other fun stuff. Outdoor living is a way of life for us kiwis. Spring cleaning isn’t limited to the indoors. For more tips on the outdoors, click here.

Finally, don’t forget to find a playlist to listen to – something that gets your motivated and moving!
